Kalama, WA – A Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputy was a fatally shot Saturday night after stopping to check on stopped vehicle.
At around 10:13 p.m. the deputy responded to a parking complaint in a rural area in the 100 block of Fallert Road, according to Q13.
After the deputy contacted the vehicle’s occupant, the deputy was shot.
The unidentified deputy was airlifted to a local hospital here he succumbed to his wounds.
A manhunt was launched for the killer and a “person of interest” was located, but they are continuing to follow up on other leads.
No further information has been released about the suspect or the deputy at this time.
