VIDEO: Store Fires Clerk For Drawing Gun On Hatchet-Wielding Robber

The suspect handed over his hatchet and took off running from the store after the clerk pulled out his concealed weapon.

Oak Grove, OR – A hatchet-wielding suspect who tried to rob a local convenience store surrendered his weapon and ran for his life after the store clerk drew a handgun and pointed at him, (video below).

The clerk has since been fired from his job due to the store’s zero tolerance for weapons policy, KOIN reported.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has released security footage of the robbery attempt in an effort to identify and locate the suspect seen in the video.

The incident occurred at the Plaid Pantry at approximately 1 a.m. on April 28.

The masked suspect entered the store and walked directly to the counter, then pulled out a 12-inch hatchet.

But as he set his weapon down on the counter, the savvy clerk drew a concealed handgun he was carrying on his right side, the video showed.

He then dialed up the police on his cell phone, while holding the would-be robber at gunpoint.

The seemingly stunned suspect slowly slid his hatchet across the counter.

“I’m sorry. I’ll leave,” he told the clerk, according to KOIN.

The suspect initially complied with the employee’s commands to raise his hands in the air and to get onto his knees, KGW reported.

But a moment later, he turned away from the armed employee, and sprinted out of the store.

The CCSO is still looking for the suspect, who is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s.

“We’d like to reunite you with the hatchet you left behind after the clerk responded with a handgun and a 911 call and you fled the scene,” CCSO Sergeant Marcus Mendoza said in a news release, according to FOX News.

Despite having protected himself and the store in what could have been a deadly encounter, the clerk was fired from his job for violating the store’s ban on weapons, Plaid Pantry CEO Jonathan Polansky told KGW.

Polansky said that employees are trained to de-escalate potentially violent situations instead of using weapons.
