VIDEO: NYPD Investigating Cops Recorded Smoking Hookah Out Of Cruiser

Bronx, NY – The New York Police Department (NYPD is conducting an internal review after video of two officers smoking a hookah out of a police car window in the Bronx on Sunday went viral (video below).

A resident of a building in the 48th Precinct filmed video in the afternoon of July 26 that showed two female NYPD officers standing on the sidewalk beside their patrol vehicle sucking on a purple hookah hose through the passenger-side window, the New York Post reported.

The person who filmed the video said the officers stood in front of the building on Bronx Park South across from the Bronx Zoo smoking for at least 90 minutes.

“I saw them reach for a hookah inside the car,” he explained to the New York Post. “They were smoking the hookah and talking.”

The video showed the hookah appeared to be set up and burning on the passenger front seat of the police vehicle.

The witness said he could smell mint hookah smoke and both officers were wearing their masks down below their mouths or had them off, the New York Post reported.

The officers were working a “shooting post” to help deter gun violence and they chatted with neighbors who approached them on the sidewalk.

He said he posted the footage to Instagram at about 5:30 p.m., the New York Post reported.

The man who filmed the officers smoking said he got a knock on his door at about 11:30 p.m. that night and it was the same officers.

He told the New York Post they begged him to take down the video.

“‘Can you please delete the video? I could lose my job. This could be an ongoing investigation,’’ the man said one of the officers pleaded with him.

He told the New York Post the officers looked young and might have been rookies.

“They looked scared. They looked nervous. They knew they were in the wrong,” the witness said.

The officers told the man who posted the cell phone video that it had been forwarded to them and was quickly going viral.

He told the New York Post he took the video down after they asked but “millions of people saw it already.”

NYPD policy prohibits officers from smoking in uniform in public view.

“The matter is under internal review,” NYPD Spokeswoman Sergeant Mary Frances O’Donnell told The Police Tribune.
