Myrtle Beach, SC – A Facebook live-stream captured the moment that a gunfight broke out in Myrtle Beach early Sunday morning.

Myrtle Beach Police Department responded to Fifth Avenue and Ocean Boulevard at around 12:25 AM for a report of a large crowd. Before the officers arrived, a fight broke out between the people who had been reported.

During the fight, one of the people involved pulled out a gun and shot one of the people who had attacked him. An armed security officer was nearby and opened fire on the shooter. The shooter fled while returning fire at the security guard before carjacking a vehicle to get away.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle and shooter. Sometime during the incident a police vehicle was struck by several rounds, but no officers were injured.

Seven people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The security officer suffered a bullet graze wound to his leg but did not need to be hospitalized, according to WMBF.

The shooting was the third shooting within 12 hours, with other shootings at Coastal Grand Mall and Crown Reef Motel.

The mayor responded to the shootings, concerned that the incident will damage the image of the city as family-friendly.

“Social media today puts this word out quickly,” Mayor Rhodes said, according to Myrtle Beach Online. “It does not look good for the city of Myrtle Beach.”

“We’re gonna send a message to do everything that’s humanly possible to stop this violence in our city,” he said.
