Palm Beach Gardens, FL – A middle school teacher has been reassigned and an investigation launched after she included a question on a quiz that labeled President Donald Trump an “idiot.”
The multiple-choice quiz question described a U.S. President as “45th Pres; 2017; Republican; Real Estate businessman; Idiot,” and asked students to choose who it described – President Donald Trump, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, or Jimmy Carter.
Cameron Cary told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that his daughter took a picture of the quiz questions given to her at Watson B. Duncan Middle School in Palm Beach Gardens and sent it to him.
“This was an actual question on my daughters middle school test today. Furious,” Cary tweeted along with the photo. “Going to raise some hell with the principle. Indoctrination will not continue. (See word “idiot” at the end of our presidents multiple choice answer). Not having it!”
The quiz questions went viral and started a firestorm on social media among President Trump supporters.
The school has reassigned the teacher pending the conclusion of the investigation, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
The principal of Watson B. Duncan Middle School later issued a letter of apology to parents.
“The question was inappropriate, and demonstrated an unacceptable lack of good judgment on the part of the teacher,” Principal Phillip D’Amico told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Cary met with school officials on Thursday and said the administration has been responsive and cooperative.
“We have to raise awareness about the systemic indoctrination and bias that takes place every day in our kids schools,” he tweeted afterward. “Kids and teachers shouldn’t be afraid to speak up when it happens. In the end I just hope this will start some changes in the culture of our school systems.”
The school has not yet explained how such a question ended up on a quiz, but Cary told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel he thought it came from Quizlet, an outline learning tool that lets teachers write their own questions.
