Kurdel Emmanuel Attacks Female Officer At NYPD Station, Tries to Take Her Gun, Judge Lets Him Walk
Kurdel Emmanuel Released After Attack On Officer
New York City, NY – NYPD has put out an alert to all officers about Kurdel Emmanuel, who attempted to take an officer’s gun, allegedly to kill her and others, before being arrested. A judge released him the next day.
The NYPD alert was publicly released on the NYPD 40th Precinct Twitter page and describes the details of the attack.
On July 8, at around 11:15 AM, Kurdel Emmanuel entered the 83rd Precinct Station to ask about an acquaintance who had been placed under arrest.
Then the suspect suddenly attacked a female officer, and attempted to remove her gun from her holster. Officers fought the suspect back and placed him into custody.
Further investigation showed that Emmanuel has a history of wanting to kill himself and others.
The female officer was transported to the hospital where she was treated and released.
Kurdel Emmanuel was initially charged with assault on a police officer and robbery.
This is a clear cut case where the suspect, even if he’s mentally ill, should be held in custody because he poses a danger to his life and the lives of others. Apparently the judge didn’t think so.
After his arraignment, Emmanuel was released from central booking.
UPDATE: NYC Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch identified the judge as Judge Loren Baily-Shiffman, an elected judge whose term ends in 2018.
All NYPD officers are now being advised to keep an eye out for Emmanuel after he has shown an intent to kill officers.
Kurdel Emmanuel is described as a black male, 29 years old, 5’8″, 160 Lbs, black hair, brown eyes, and his last known address is on East 55 Street in Brooklyn.
