Korryn Gaines’ Boyfriend, Kareem Courtney, Arrested For A LOT of Heroin And Firearm

Kareem Kiean Courtney, boyfriend of the Maryland woman that was fatally shot during a standoff with police, has been charged with nine criminal counts Friday, including heroin distribution, drug possession, and weapons charges.

Baltimore County Police searched Courtney’s residence after the standoff, they found 26.7 grams of heroin in 75 capsules, a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition. The shotgun was the same one Korryn Gaines used during Monday’s shootout with police. Courtney, who has prior attempted murder convictions, is being held in the Baltimore County Jail without bail.

Courtney was arrested on Monday during the standoff with Korryn Gaines. The standoff started just before 9:30 AM when officers arrived at Gaines’ door to serve a warrant for failing to appear in court for a traffic violation. Courtney was also wanted for a second-degree domestic violence assault against Gaines.

Police knocked on the door of the apartment for 10 minutes but were unable to get the Gaines or Courtney to answer the door. The officers heard people inside and forced the door open to come face-to-face with Gaines’ shotgun.

The standoff that ensued lasted for several hours. Courtney finally decided that he didn’t want any part of a suicide standoff, and he came out carrying a 1-year-old child and was arrested. Gaines posted to Facebook and Instagram about the standoff, with people encouraging her not to fight law enforcement. The police officers contacted Facebook and advised them of the situation. Facebook then made the decision to shut down Gaines’ Facebook and Instagram accounts to prevent outsiders from encouraging Gaines to be violent.

Gaines finally raised a shotgun at officers and there was an exchange of gunfire in which Gaines was killed and her son was wounded.

The public outcry about the incident has been extreme. According to police officials, the police officers who were involved received “an unprecedented number of threats against police, including threats and actions against specific officers and officials.” This is the classic response from people who buy into the divisive rhetoric of groups like Black Lives Matter. All other lives matter more to these people than the lives of police officers, and they cannot accept when officers have to use deadly force to defend their lives. The officers were justified in using deadly force to stop the immediate threat to their lives.

Gaines’ biggest victims here are her two children, who must now grow up after this traumatizing incident, without their mother, due to her determination to be killed by police.
