I worked in a drug treatment center for a bit this year, so if you’re saying addicts need help, I can absolutely agree, however..I was one of few “normies’ on staff (someone who has never been an addict) and everyone there from our clients to my own boss would tell you that they had no desire to seek help until they’d destroyed their lives completely. Jail seems to have been a motivating factor for the vast majority.

Can anyone really handle meth, or crack or heroin for long though, Trey? I have no issue with someone who decides to smoke some pot here or there, or a person who needs pain pills for some condition they have, but I’ve never known of anyone who successfully managed to not OD, die or end up in some bad situation from using hardcore drugs.

When your child is injured or killed by a person driving drunk or high it becomes your problem. But you don’t see that. The dealer that sell bad heroin and the user dies I guess that’s the users problem? The dealer shouldn’t be held accountable?

Really???? I never OD’ed, died or ended up in a bad situation and I snorted loads of cocaine in my younger days. Never stole to support my habit or screwed anyone over for the same purpose. Just because you dont know of someone doesnt mean a whole lot of them exist. You never hear of these cases because they arent news worthy

For one tens of millions use cannabis with no problem. For two a lot of people use hard drugs and you’d never know it. The idea that everyone who uses is a junkie is stupid.

I would because there are certain body reactions to drugs that can’t be hidden and won’t diminish due to frequent use. It’s a myth to think drugs can be “handled” by users, even in the middle of OD’s people think they are handling it just fine. It’s only when they lose their drive to breathe do they realize the cant handle it, and by then they are asleep and blue… How many OD’s have you seen? I’m in the hundreds right now so I dare say I would have a better idea… Did you realize that prescribed drugs are the worst? Doc gave it to me, I’ll be ok….

Clearly you don’t know much about addicts. Many won’t change ways until Rock bottom hits them, it could be jail or losing all friends and family. My brother who used to be an addict and also now works in a clinic to help others will tell you the same thing.

Life is not going well if you are an addict. Even if you have a great job and everything you need to survive the vast majority will absolutely know they have a problem deep down.

He might work in a treatment facility but you are right….not everyone needs or will hit their rock bottom to seek help. I myself realized I needed help before ever hitting my bottom. And yes I am sure I wasn’t at my rock bottom.

Rachel, I feel for the addicts, but what I also realize is that in the beginning, it was their choice. If more people saw the results of irresponsible behavior rather then hiding it in jail or at a treatment facility, people would make better decisions. I work on an ambulance and rush to help when they OD. If people saw what we see, the choice would be easy… and a whole lot cheaper on our nation…

Am I suggesting we let them fend for themselves as an educational lesson for the general public? Why yes, yes I am. When we hide the problem behind closed doors, the general public has NO idea how devastating the problem is. Let them see what they support, then it will stop because they won’t want to do it… let them see the convulsions, let them see the death, let them see the destruction of individuals and I promise you, people will alter their behavior and not participate. When public executions were still allowed the crime rate was microscopic compared to what we have now… think about it…

Since we’re talking hypotheticals, if somebody makes a mistake and gets angry and shoots somebody should we make an example out of them and put them to death? oh yeah, I’ll answer that… yes. It works. We have millions of addicts, and only a 1-2 thousand murderers each year. We assist addicts, we deter murders by making an example out of them and putting them all over the news and then ending their life and that works… It’s not compassionate, t’s behavior modification for people who refuse to accept responsibility for their own actions.

And now California in its infinite wisdom has removed that tool for drug abusers thanks to Jerry Brown and prop 47.
And because of the changes,crime,which was dropping for DECADES has started rising again.

So there are roughy 192 MILLION more Rx drug users.

There are approx 25,000 Rx overdoses each year so if you take Rx drugs you have about a 0.01 of overdose death

There are approx 17,000 illegal drug overdoses each year so if you take illegal drugs you have about a 0.05% chance of overdose death.

The reality is neither is over all that high when compared to the total number of users.
But still the fact remains using illegal drugs is more likely to result in death vs taking prescription drugs. Fact.

Personally I think ALL drugs should be legal because I don’t think it’s the governments business.

Yes they have been jailed for just using which is part of the laws that need to change,but we can’t hold parents responsible for what the streets and society are pushing on our children,I put the blame on the Government and the school systems.I’m not sure how old you are sweetie but when we were growing up we didn’t have the Government telling them how to raise or discipline us,we didn’t have video games and computers raising us. We got our asses busted,and were taught right from wrong.We had summer jobs to work so we could learn work ethics,earn our own money while learning skills.Kids these days look at you like your stupid when you tell them to do something as simple as take the trash out or they go completely hysterical when you tell them to do something that takes away their fooling around time. We all want change sweetie but the change has to start at home,we can’t fix anything on the outside until we fix the inside. I believe that i n order to enforce the law, you must first know and respect it. And while a man with a gun in an open carry state may have alarmed the police, it still was not a criminal act. The laws of that state guarantee that man the right to carry a weapon and the police not only trampled that right, they killed a man in the process. It’s not paranoid theories, sir, it’s actually happening. Terence Crutcher’s car broke down and the police saw him as a threat and killed him. Philando Castille had a permit and a legal right to carry a gun and the police killed him. Open your eyes dude.
