Hero Down: Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Officer Munir Edais Dies Unexpectedly

Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department Officer Munir “Mo” Edais was a 10-year law enforcement veteran.

Los Gatos, CA – Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department (LGMSPD) Officer Munir “Mo” Edais died unexpectedly on Jan. 21.

His exact cause of death has not been released by officials.

“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report your Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Officer Munir Edais died unexpectedly on January 21,” the Los Gatos Police Officers’ Association (POA) said in a Facebook post on Jan. 24. “’Mo’ as we all knew him was our brother.”

The San Francisco native earned a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice before he began his 10-year law enforcement career, according to a fundraising page established to help his family in the wake of their sudden loss.

Officer Edais worked for the San Francisco Community College Police Department and the San Jose State University Police Department before he joined the LGMSPD in 2016.

“He served our community with seemingly endless energy,” the POA said. “His passing leaves a giant hole in our department and in our lives.”

Officer Edais, who spoke fluent Arabic, “broke barriers within the LGMSPD after his request to wear a beard while in uniform to honor the traditions of his Muslim faith was granted by the Chief of Police,” the POA said in another post.

“[Officer] Munir’s coworkers knew him as a dedicated, passionate, tenacious professional with an endless sense of humor,” his fundraising page read. “He was a brother to those with whom he worked and cherished his role as a protector and servant to his community.”

Officer Munir leaves behind his pregnant wife and his two young daughters from a prior relationship.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department Officer Munir “Mo” Edais, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
