East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Murdered
Baton Rouge, LA – An East Baton Rouge Parish Deputy was shot and killed Saturday night, March 19, 2017.
The incident occurred around 11:00 PM near the Classic Cuts barber shop in a strip mall near the movie theater on O’Neal Lane at I-12. Deputies had responded to a report of a domestic violence situation at a storefront. Gunfire erupted during the investigation of the incident, and the deputy was shot.
The deputy was taken to Ochsner Medical Center across the street where he later died, according to WBRZ 2 ABC. Family and Officers gathered at the hospital. The deputy’s name has not yet been released. A second Deputy who was present during the incident was not injured.
The suspect was also shot during the incident and was transported to a different local hospital. He is still being treated and his condition is unknown. His name has not been released but sources said that he was a convicted felon with previous arrests for attempted murder and sexually abusing a child.
Casey Rayborn Hicks, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said that it was “a tragic night for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.” She said that “we are focused on working with the family, praying for the family and making sure our deputies have the help and support they need.”
No further details have been released. The Louisiana State Police are conducting the investigation.
