BREAKING: Texas Officer Stabbed Responding to Car Wreck

Plano, TX – A Plano police officer was stabbed on Thursday morning after he responded to a car wreck.

Officials said the officer arrived on the scene of the crash at about 6:50 a.m. on June 25 near Independence Parkway and Legacy Drive, KDFW reported.

KTVT reported that the officer pulled up right after the crash occurred and approached one of the vehicles to check on the condition of the driver.

That’s when the female driver of that car got out of the vehicle and stabbed the officer in the upper-arm and shoulder area.

The officer retreated to put distance behind himself and the armed woman, KTVT reported.

Plano Police Department Spokesman David Tilley said that then the woman attacked the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash and began stabbing her.

The woman sustained multiple stab wounds.

So the officer opened fire and shot the armed woman, KTVT reported.

Officials said she died at the scene. Her name has not yet been released.

Police had no information about the condition of the second driver but said the officer was expected to survive, WFAA reported.

Officials said the victim had been stabbed multiple times.

Tilley said the officer involved was a veteran officer of the police force.

He said authorities do not yet know whether the two drivers  knew each other prior to the crash or if the stabbings were a result of road rage, WFAA reported.

They have not yet released the identity of the police officer, the suspect, or the other wounded driver.

Roads have been shut down in the area while police investigate the incident, WFAA reported.
