Berkeley Instructor Says Rural Americans Should Be Shamed, Made To Suffer

Jackson Kernion, an instructor at Berkeley, tweeted that rural Americans should be shamed for not living in cities.

Berkeley, CA – A Philosophy instructor the University of California – Berkeley posted tweets that advocated the bashing of rural Americans and said anybody who doesn’t choose to live in a city should be shamed.

“I unironically embrace the bashing of rural Americans,” Jackson Kernion wrote in a now-deleted tweet on Nov. 6. “They, as a group, are bad people who have made bad life decisions…and we should shame people who aren’t pro-city.”

Campus Reform first reported on the philosophy instructor’s bizarre and offensive tweets against affordable healthcare solutions in rural America two days after they were posted.

“Rural Healthcare Should be expensive! And that expense should be borne by those who choose rural America!” Kernion also tweeted.

“Same goes for rural broadband. And gas taxes,” he posted. “It should be uncomfortable to live in rural America. It should be uncomfortable to not move.”

The graduate student in Philosophy later deleted the tweets but not before they went viral, Campus Reform reported.

FOX News reported that Kernion had taught at least 11 philosophy courses at Berkeley.

Kernion has been teaching at the university since 2013, according to Campus Reform.

He later apologized for the tone of his tweet, although Berkeley never weighed in on the matter.

“Pretty sure I did a bad tweet here. Gonna delete it,” Kernion wrote on Twitter. “I’ll want to reflect on it more later, but my tone is way crasser and meaner than I like to think I am.”

FOX Business Host Stuart Varney compared the Berkeley instructor’s tweets to Hillary Clinton calling Donald Trump’s supporters “deplorables” before the 2016 election, according to Time

“What [Kernion] had to say showed us just how the elites look down on everyone else – in this case, country folks,” Varney told FOX News. “It reminds me of Hillary Clinton’s deplorables speech. Remember? Half of us are “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic deplorables.’”

Clinton made those comments in September of 2016 during a campaign fundraiser in New York City.

“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right?” she said. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic – you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”

Georgetown University Adjunct Professor Brad Blakeman called Kernion’s remarks “nuts,” FOX News reported.

Blakeman said “cities need to take care of their own” because “rural America is doing just great.”
