The medical examiner declared his death was the result of an overdose of oxycodone and codeine, and he also had THC, morphine, and caffeine in his system at the time, according to Chicago Tribune.

Law enforcement sources said that the pilot who was flying the private aircraft notified investigators about the drugs and firearms that Higgins and his entourage had brought onto the flight out of Los Angeles, TMZ reported.

Federal law enforcement officials were waiting for the plane when it landed at Chicago’s Midway Airport just after 1 a.m., according to The New York Times.

Higgins allegedly downed the pills sometime between when the plane landed and when federal investigators came on board, TMZ reported.

As police were questioning the dozens of passengers, Higgins suddenly went into convulsions, according to The New York Times.

Federal agents administered Narcan and summoned paramedics who arrived at the scene less than seven minutes later, Chicago Police Department (CPD) spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.

Higgins was rushed to a hospital at 2:55 a.m., and was pronounced dead 11 minutes later, according to TMZ.

Investigators located six bottles of liquid codeine and approximately 70 pounds of marijuana packaged into 41 vacuum-sealed bags when they searched the Gulfstream jet, The New York Times reported.

They also located a .40-caliber handgun and two 9mm handguns, as well as a “high-capacity magazine” and metal-piercing ammunition.

The weapons and drugs were stuffed into suitcases without any personal items, and no names were affixed to the luggage, The New York Times reported.

Two of Higgins’ security guards, 27-year-old Henry Dean and 36-year-old Christopher Long, were arrested on misdemeanor weapons-related charges after the State’s Attorney’s office refused to file felony charges against them, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Dean has a license to carry a gun in the state of Illinois. He was charged with sale and/or possession of a high capacity magazine and metal piercing bullets and carrying a concealed firearm at an airport, according to FOX News

Long was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Both suspects have already been released from jail, according to TMZ.

It wasn’t the first time Higgins’ private jet had been searched by federal agents, FOX News reported.

The rapper’s belongings were also searched at LAX on Nov. 18, as he and his entourage were preparing to take off for Sydney, Australia.

It was unclear whether or not any illegal contraband was located during the search, but Higgins and his crew were allowed to take off as scheduled, FOX News reported.

Higgins tweeted a public apology for his drug abuse to his girlfriend on July 8.

“Bae I’m sorry I be tweaking, you’ve put up with more than ppl know I know I be scaring you, fuck Codeine I’m done,” the wrapper wrote. “I love you and im letting it be known publicly that ain’t shit fucking up the real love I found. Learn from this everyone. Addiction kills all but you can overcome.”

Originally a SoundCloud star, Higgins burst onto the mainstream pop scene in 2018, The New York Times reported.

His second album, “Death Race for Love,” debuted at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March.
