Video: Secret Service Shooting Armed Man at White House
The US District Court has released video of the Secret Service shooting that took place at the White House a month ago. In the video, you can clearly see a man armed with a gun approaching the gate. He looks determined as he walks up and you can see him get shot and drop his gun before he is swarmed by secret service officers.
NBC News reports:
Jesse Olivieri, the Pennsylvania man shot by a Secret Service agent at a security checkpoint outside the White House last month, told officials “I came here to shoot people,” according to a court document filed Friday.
Olivieri, 31, remains hospitalized after he was shot by a Secret Service agent on May 20. He was charged Friday with using a firearm to interfere with a federal officer.
U.S. Park Police investigators said Olivieri approached a security gate on the White House grounds openly holding a handgun. When he ignored repeated commands to drop the gun, he was shot once.
Asked why he came to the House House, he told a Secret Service officer that he came there “to shoot people,” according to court documents.
Law enforcement officials have said they believe it was a case of attempted “suicide by cop.”
The incident led to a lockdown of the White House and the closing of streets in the area for several hours. President Obama was away at the time, but Vice President Biden was inside the White House complex, administration officials said.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
That is what you can call an incompetent gunman. He stated that his intent was to shoot people, not to commit suicide by cop. However, it’s clear that any normally functioning person would expect to be shot long before reaching the gate to the White House, walking forward with a gun in-hand.
