SMU Police Sergeant Mark McCullers Body Found Washed Up In Dallas Levee

Dallas, Texas – The body of Southern Methodist University Police Department Sergeant Mark McCullers was found washed up on the banks of the Trinity River levee on Wednesday.

Officer Mark McCullers had gone missing on July 5th during a flash flood, and had been presumed dead. At the time of his disappearance, he had been working an off-duty job guarding a residential construction site.

When the flash flood hit, Officer McCullers radioed for help. “It’s flooding. It’s about to go in my car.”

Surveillance video from the nearby home under construction showed Officer McCullers struggling to open up the passenger door to his Dodge Charger and floodwaters rose. That was the last time he was seen alive.

SMU officers have been walking the levee since his disappearance in an attempt to locate the body of Officer Mark McCullers, which could help bring closure to his wife and six children. “I would do anything, give anything to know that he’s not just out there,” his wife Tiffany McCullers said. “We’re Christians, so I know that wherever his body is isn’t his final resting place, but I just hate the thought that he’s somewhere out there alone.” An SMU officer finally discovered the sergeant’s body on Wednesday.

Officers lined the levee as Officer McCullers’ body was removed and covered with an American flag. Initial reports said that he was still wearing his uniform. Officer McCullers was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Southern Methodist University Police Department for 17 months. He is survived by his wife and six children.
