Bodycam Footage Of Police Gun Battle Shows Officers Being Ambushed By Francis Clark
Body Camera Footage Shows Francis Clark Ambush Phoenix Police Officers
Phoenix, AZ – Body camera footage has been released showing two Phoenix Police Department officers being ambushed by murder suspect Francis Clark while responding to a call.
The initial incident took place May 14 at an apartment complex near near 37th Avenue and McDowell Road. Two officers responded to a “shots fired” call at the apartment complex when, unknown to them at the time, Francis Clark had just murdered his girlfriend, Mercy Cordova.
The video, obtained by William Pitts with KPNX, starts with officers approaching the apartment. Blink and you’ll miss it, but Francis Clark can be seen popping up from around a vehicle and opening fire on officers, striking both of them. Watch closely and Clark can then be seen running away up the stairs as officers returned fire.
The officers were not seriously hurt, as one officer was hit in the arm and the other officer’s ballistic vest stopped the bullet meant for him. Francis Clark was killed during the shootout.
These officers did a great job in stopping the threat after they were ambushed and shot. This video serves as a perfect example of a justified shooting while the suspect is running away. The suspect could have easily turned around at any moment and killed the officers, or could have gotten into another apartment and gained access to more victims.
