Oregon Mom Shoots and Kills Intruder in Daughter’s Bedroom
Mom shoots suspect: David Daniel Mcarary
Portland, OR – As a mother returned home with her two children she discovered a 59-year-old man, David Daniel McCrary, in her daughter’s bedroom. Thankfully this mother was packing heat and fired, fatally wounding the stranger found lurking in their home. Some are questioning why she had to shoot before asking questions or why did she shoot to kill. No information was actually released about the mother’s interaction with the intruder, so critics are a little quick on the draw by condemning this woman for protecting her family, while assuming that the intruder was no threat. Either way, we say, well done. Finding an intruder in your home doesn’t require that you wait until you and your children are attacked, it requires action to protect your family.
The suspect killed early Sunday has been identified as 59-year-old David Daniel McCrary of Gresham, Ore. A state medical examiner determined that McCrary died of a single gunshot wound, police said.
“Detectives have not been able to determine why McCrary broke into the victim’s home,” police said Monday.
The homeowner, identified as 33-year-old Tara-Alexis Ford, “has no connection to McCrary and he is not from the neighborhood,” police said. “McCrary has no significant criminal history but there was a recent report indicating that McCrary may have been struggling with mental health issues.”
Ford has cooperated with detectives and was not arrested, police said, noting that the case will be reviewed by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities were called to the home at 1:47 a.m. Sunday.
They met the homeowner when they arrived, and she let them inside.
“Inside the home, officers found a deceased male,” police said in a release.
“Detectives determined that McCrary broke into Ford’s home through a back window,” police said. “Ford found McCrary in her 10-year-old daughter’s bedroom, where the shooting occurred.
“Both her daughter and 5-year-old son were in the home but were in a different bedroom at the time of the shooting.”
A neighbor told CBS affiliate KOIN that the Portland home was vacant for a period of time before Ford and her children moved in.
It’s your right to protect your family and property. This woman did was was necessary to keep her family safe.

I find it absolutely ludicrous that the homeowner should have to explain WHY she shot a man that she did NOT know in her daughter’s bedroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have emptied my gun into him & then called the PD. WHY are so many people wanting to give the CRIMINALS any benefit of the doubt!? SHOOT FIRST – NO QUESTIONS LATER!!!!! Put a “few in the ground” and MAYBE others might think twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the beginning of the article it says that she returned home with two of her children and found the man in her daughter’s bedroom. Then it says it she was home but in a different part of the house???

This man was possibly not a criminal. That has not been determined yet. The article states that he had recently been struggling with some mental health issues and it did not specify of what nature. Elderly people are often out lost and confused. Before I got to that point I was thinking that he might be an elderly man with dementia that used to live there. You never know. If that is the case, how sad and how would any of us feel if that man was a member of our families and shot and killed unnecessarily.
Btw, fyi, before people go nuts on here with hate comments, I am an elderly woman my self. Senior citizen age but of sound mind and body. And I do conceal carry and believe in our right to bear arms. I just think: you never know till it’s you.

There are 4 possible reasons for why this man was in the room:
1) Intended abduction of a child.
2) Intended killing of a child.
3) Intended molestation of a child.
All 3 of these gruesome crimes warrant a lifelong prison sentence, the immediate use of lethal force in defending against such a crime, is warranted as well.
4) Severe dementia.
If your mental illness makes you break (!) into another person’s home, giving the appearance of 1-3 happening, then that’s what the defender must assume is happening. And again, that warrants the lethal use of force against the intruder.
So, even if you’d like to believe that (4) was the case, based on whatever you may have pulled out of your nose, there’s still no conscionable reason to critique the woman for shooting the man.
