Niagra Falls To Illuminate Blue For Law Enforcement

New York – The U.S./Canadian Peace Bridge and Niagra Falls will be lit blue in honor of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on January 9th.  Western New York C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors) have coordinated with the two major landmarks to honor law enforcement as part of the day established by the National C.O.P.S. Organization.

The Peace Bridge is an international bridge that spans between the United States and Canada.  Connecting us to our northern neighbors, the bridge runs from the east end of Lake Erie at the source of the Niagra River around Buffalo, New York and up to Fort Erie, Ontario.  Built in 1873, it was built to honor 100 years of peace between the United States and Canada.  This upcoming Monday it will honor all of those who died for peace while holding the Thin Blue Line.

Both tributes will run in conjunction with the National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, organized by C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors).  C.O.P.S. is a national organization that supports and ministers to survivors of heroes killed in the line of duty.  The organization was formed in 1984 and started with 110 members.  Today, the group is a collective 37,000 survivors of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.  C.O.P.S. declared Monday January 9th, 2016 a day to “Take the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Appreciation Day).”  They are encouraging people to do something on this day to show their support of police.  A few things you can do include: Changing your profile picture on social media, wear blue in support of law enforcement, send a card of appreciation to your local department, share a positive story of law enforcement on social media, participate in Project Blue Light, and more.

According to The Buffalo News the blue lights will illuminate on the Peace Bridge from 6 PM until 1 AM, in honor of all fallen officers.  Niagra Falls will also illuminate blue in 15-minute intervals beginning at 10 PM, in honor of all current or former police officers and those who have passed.  Thank you to all of those responsible for coordinating this memorial at Niagra Falls and the Peace Bridge.  Your willingness to stand with survivors of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and all of those still serving does not go unnoticed.

What will you do this Monday to honor the men and women in law enforcement?  Let us know in the comments or on our Facebook page or share your photo with us on Twitter @bluelivesmtr or Instagram.
