Man Rams Two Police Cars and Drags Cops as He Flees Traffic Stop
Amazingly, this was captured on video by news photographer Mike Vielhaber. Cleveland, OH officers responded to somebody passed out behind the wheel. Officers boxed the vehicle in with their patrol cars so that the driver would not flee when he woke up. Officers knocked on the window to wake up the driver. When they driver woke up, he opened the door and officers saw a gun between his feet; officers removed the gun. That’s when the video starts. In the video, you can see the vehicle suddenly back up, ramming one patrol car, while knocking one of the officers to the ground. The other officer can be seen grabbing at the driver. The vehicle then rammed the patrol car in front of it, and took off, dragging the officer with it until that officer was knocked down.
newsnet5 reports:
The man allegedly began fumbling with his gear shift and then put his car in drive and rammed two police cruisers.
One officer was tossed to the ground during the first impact. The other officer was dragged, sustaining back and leg injuries.
The suspect’s car was found about five minutes later, wrecked. It had crashed through a fence at the Broadway Avenue overpass of Interstate 490. Then it flew off the embankment and landed on the highway below. Officers said by the time they arrived at the scene, the suspect had run off.
The registration of the vehicle shows that it belongs to a woman. She reportedly has not known the suspect long.
Police are still looking for that man. He is facing charges of felonious assault on an officer, failure to comply with lawful order, carrying a concealed weapon and damage to city property.
