Houston PD Helicopter Pilot Lands, Tackles Suspect

We have a must-watch video where a Houston PD helicopter pilot landed his helicopter and tackled a burglary suspect during a pursuit. In the video, you can see the helicopter circling. Then a police vehicle sideswipes the suspect. After falling down, the suspect gets up and keeps running. Our of nowhere you can see the helicopter pilot run up to the suspect to take him down.

Click2Houston reports:

A chase ended with a Houston police helicopter crew member taking down a burglary suspect in north Houston right after he was run over by a police vehicle.Police received a burglary call at a residence in the 900 block of Melwood and when police responded, two suspects drove off.

Officers pursued the suspects’ vehicle until they stopped near Egypt and Hardy, and ran from the vehicle.

One suspect ran into an open field near Cavalcade and Hardy with an HPD SUV chasing him, when the vehicle hit him, sideswiping him. The man got back up and ran off.

The HPD helicopter landed nearby and a crew member with a helmet then ran up to and tackled the man.

Other HPD officers arrived and took the man into custody.

The second suspect was arrested at the scene where the chase ended.

Their identities have not yet been released.

This Houston PD helicopter pilot has to win the badass of the week award. He wasn’t going to wait for any of those slow police officers on the ground to take down a burglary suspect. After watching the suspect evade capture for so long, I imagine the pilot just threw his hands up in the air and said, “Fine! I’ll just do it myself.” I’m not sure, but I figure that’s probably not a tactic that they teach in police helicopter pilot school.

What do you think is more awesome, a helicopter pilot running down a suspect, or a fur missile being launched from a helicopter?

Love it!! That pilot was ready to rumble…

Or it wasn’t the pilot, it was the TACTICAL FLIGHT OFFICER who was on board. You know, because the pilot is still flying the helicopter and stuff.

Yup, it was the TFO, not the pilot. The TFO is the “real cop” on board. Once a TFO makes pilot, the pilot just doesn’t give a darn anymore. Lol.
